METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left not long ago and it has not penetrated the surface, we might be able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a warm and sticky mess. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper right under the gum. After that we slide the scraper slowly under the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above process is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove gum that has turned black, or is already smashed deep down into the concrete surface, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we do not use very high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than needed to clean concrete. These surfaces can be damaged much easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a few years old. Concrete can require up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our gum removal professional.
